Why you are bad at introducing yourself:

* Too much information.

* Too vague.

* Too general.

* It goes right over the head of the person you're talking to.

Sometimes it's a combination of those. That's when it REALLY goes off the rails.

Man going on and on introducing himself at a dinner party.

We have all sat through pretty painful ones. And sometimes, we ramble all ove rthe place too.

Introductions is the lead topic of the second issue of my newsletter, The Ground Rules, out next Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

I am going to give you the structure to make it concise and sound like you are actually interesting. Even if you are a data analyst!

You can call it "an introduction to introductions."

One thing for sure -- if you can't introduce yourself in 20 seconds or less, you are doing it wrong.
