The must-read Epic Tweet Of 2026 has arrived. The best public rebuttal to an investigative story you may ever see.
French newspaper Le Monde published a six-part investigative profile about LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, painting him as a dominant figure influencing French politics, media, and business, alleging intense succession rivalries among his children, and aggressive media manipulation. The report also detailed accusations of tax maneuvering, undue influence on government officials, and the suppression of competitor coverage.
Arnault’s response is one for the ages.
When you are worth $203 billion, you can post a sarcastic, biting 1,260-word response on X.
Arnault titled it: "Thank you."
WARNING: You can do this when are listed atop Bloomberg's Billionaires Index. Do NOT try this at home.
Instead of the expected angry name calling, Arnault belittles Le Monde by acting amused by them, mocking the obvious, and pulling the sheets off their agenda.
The implication: he is bigger than they are.
Here are three juicy lines, for starters:
"It seems I am the head of 'the last royal family of France.' I learned this reading Le Monde, between two cups of tea. My children, alerted by WhatsApp, asked whether this meant they should now curtsy before me."
"I learned... that my staff are impeccably turned out and that not one of them is overweight. I offer my apologies to readers for this failure of bodily diversity, and I shall raise the matter with the company canteen on Monday."
"I apparently whisper into the ear of every president. I plead guilty: Mitterrand, Chirac, Sarkozy, Hollande, Macron. I should have stayed on Avenue Montaigne, speaking only to my dog. I add, for the sake of completeness, that beyond five American presidents, I have also whispered to three British prime ministers, two German chancellors, and one emperor of Japan. Not a line on those particular whispers."
Arnault warns others who will be asked to sit for similar interviews with to expect the paper’s same cynical agenda. And you know all of France’s business elite is reading.
The entire tweet's punchline is priceless. You have to see it yourself.
Unless you are a multi-billionaire, don't even think about doing the same thing if an article makes you angry. But for sheer chutzpah and entertainment value, this is a must read.
You will find it on LVMH Presse's X page.
Bring popcorn.
