A CEO shared this unconventional view about public speaking with me: "Content is the icing on the cake. Delivery is the cake."

I think it is time to change bakeries.

Delivery and content are both the icing on the cake and the cake if you want to excel as a speaker.

Cake with flower decor on top.

One without the other is like watching a film with great acting but a bad script -- they know how to deliver their lines but the substance is confusing and doesn't make sense.

Data, charts, and numbers are impressive, but they are static. They don't have a pulse by themselves.

When they are delivered with a strong narrative, one with anecdotes and the right dynamic language, they spring to life, hold the room, and connect emotionally with everybody in it.

Just like great actors who deliver their lines superbly AND have an excellent script.
